GOD’s Promises

3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. [2Pe 1:3-4 ESV]

GOD has given us through his own power his great and precious promises, which we can count on, in order that we might become more like him in this life, being obedient to Christ–partakers of his divine nature. If we are to become more like him in this life through the Work of the Spirit, imagine how much more we shall be like him in the life to come when we stand face to face with him!

Take a look at just some of the many promises GOD has made to us:

Promises from Acts 2:14-41

    • The pouring out of the Holy Spirit (2:17-18)
    • Salvation for all those who are called by him and call on his name (2:21; 2:38-39)
    • Hope in Christ Jesus (2:26)
    • Gladness in his presence (joy) (2:28)
    • The Resurrection of Christ, which is the source of our hope (2:31, 1 Peter 1:3)

Promises from 1 John 3:2

    • Christ will return
    • We will see him and be made like him
Promises from 1 Peter 1:2-5
    • Sanctification by the Spirit for Obedience to Christ (2)
    • We have an imperishable inheritance being Kept by GOD (not by us!) (4)
    • We are guarded for Salvation, through the power of GOD through faith (5)

In a broader sense, all the promises of the Bible belong to those in Christ , because it says in 2 Corinthians:
20 For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. [2Co 1:20 ESV]

We who are in Christ Jesus have all the promises of GOD.

2 Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. [1Jo 3:2 ESV]

Encountering the Living GOD through Christ Jesus is Transformative, both in this life and in the next! So let us refuse to be conformed to this world and its way of life, and instead let us embrace the promises of the living GOD and be transformed by the renewal of our minds. (Romans 12:1-2)

    1. Looking back on what GOD has done and what he is donning in our lives is a powerful Spiritual Discipline and pleases GOD. I know if I’m having trouble with something that saps my strength, the best thing I can do penultimate to prayer is to look back and remember, which helps me to see not only what he has done, but what he is doing, and will do in the future. GOD truely is good.
